It is with great sadness and a broken heart that Bethel Christian Schools has to announce the passing of Mr. David Avila, our Director of Security and Transportation. Over the last two weeks he battled pneumonia and other complications which caused his oxygen levels to decline. According to health professional, these health issues were not COVID-19 related. He eventually went home to see our Lord and Savior this morning around 1:40 am.
Mr. Avila was a Godly man who loved his wife Patricia and his three children Corina, Erica, and Andy. Additionally, he was well known around Bethel for his wonderful smile, his personality, and love for our students and families. He will greatly be missed by all who knew him.
Several families have already reached out to school staff regarding providing meals and sending sympathy cards for the Avila family. Due to the distance the family lives from Bethel, we are unable to coordinate a meal train. If anyone would like to provide a meal for the family, please do so by purchasing a DoorDash, UberEats, supermarket, etc. gift card. These gift cards, along with any sympathy cards can be dropped off in the school office this week. We are working on a date for Bethel staff to meet with the family and take gifts and cards.
Schedule and Spirit Week Changes:
- Due to the positive impact he had on many of our students, we will be having a special assembly for our middle and high school students tomorrow. We will be offering a time of prayer and reflection.
- On Wednesday, we would like to invite students to wear UCLA attire in honor of Mr. Avila. This was his favorite college.
- Sports try-outs are postponed until next week. We will resume on November 2nd.
Please join Bethel in keeping the Avila’s in prayer. This is the one request they have asked during this whole ordeal.
